YOGA ODYSSEY - Breath Awareness
YOGA ODYSSEY - Breath Awareness
Becoming aware of our regular breathing patterns helps us identify our emotional state. Fast, shallow breathing makes us more prone to losing our cool and experiencing outbursts, creating a spiral of negativity, toxic energy, and bad luck. It also raises blood pressure and increases acidity in our digestive tract.
Long, full breaths using our entire lung capacity have the opposite effect. Try getting mad at your kids or partner while deliberately breathing slowly and deeply – it’s nearly impossible.
The old yoga masters mastered breath control through years of practice, and this is where it starts for you. I’m sharing some easy techniques to practice in your space and time.
To begin, focus gently on exhaling and inhaling through your nostrils. This may feel strange at first, but it will become more natural over time. However, if you have a physical obstruction preventing the flow of breath through your nose, please consult a medical professional.
Beginners are advised to sign up for a couple of my online classes before attempting self-practice.
